Sandys' Life
and Times

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, led by Rossetti, Millais and Holman Hunt, burst onto the London art scene in 1848. Championed by Ruskin and savaged by Dickens, their extraordinary pictures are now hugely popular.

A friend and follower of Rossetti, Frederick Sandys excelled as a brilliant draughtsman, a wonderful portrait painter and a colourful character in the more bohemian circles of the Pre-Raphaelite world.
